My Genre

I have decided that my genre is going to be electronica/dance. I really wanted to do this genre because i feel its different, its not appreciated enough and a lot of people went for the indie genre. I am inspired by artists such as owl city and sweedish house mafia. I am a big fan of this music as i think its really motivational. I think its great as it embraces people to come together.

Definitions of electronia/dance: Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology

Dance music: Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music.

Skillex- 'Bangarang' is an example of a good electronic/dance song.

Research into Daft Punk

Daft punk have always been very inspiring to me since a young age. I remember listening to one more time and feeling amazing. Daft Punk is an electronic music duo consisting of French musicians named Guy Christo and Thomas Bangalter. It  reached significant popularity in the late 1990s house movement in France and met with continued success in the years following, combining elements of house with synthpop( genre of popular music that first became prominent in the 1980s in which the synthesizer is the most dominant instrument). Daft Punk is noted for its elaborate live shows, in which visual elements and effects are incorporated with the music. The group is known for its emphasis on visual and story components associated with their musical productions. Daft Punk is also known for its use of disguises, particularly the ornate robot costumes, while in public and/or performing. I absolutely love there album called 'Discovery' which came out in 2001, with hits such as 'one more time, harder better faster stronger and digital love'.

I love there album cover which has a splash of metallic silver font with hidden rainbow colours underneath.

I don't think electronica/dance music is very appreciated. I mean people will appreciate the odd one or two songs but the great effort they put into producing the music is incredible. 'Too long' is track 14 on discovery and is10:00 minutes long its amazing how they employ there instruments to take flow and sometimes dominate the song.

I  read an article on dance music by 'The Guardian' a well known newspaper. Daft punk said in the article they think electronic dance music is in crisis. They mentioned electronic dance music is having an identity crisis. In there first interview to promote their new album Random Access Memories due next month the French duo claimed EDM is "in its comfort zone". "Its not moving one inch". Thomas Bangalter said "That's not what artists are supposed to do".
