What pleasures do people get from reading magazines?

Audience pleasures are very significant for magazine producers they need to think what will keep the audience buying the magazine.

Ritual pleasure - read it every week/month. Becomes a routine.

Visual and tactile pleasure - You enjoy reading a high quality product - it is nice to touch and look at a beautiful glossy magazine.

Entertainment and diversion - you enjoy reading it and it gives you something to do.

Knowledge - knowing about music gives you a sense of power/self-esteem.

Direct mode of address - magazine 'speaks' to you and your peers.

Information - you can find out what is going on in your music. Reviews, gigs guides etc.

Identity - you construct a sense of 'you' from what you like and dislike.

Community - you feel part of a community who share the same interests and values. You feel special!

Freebies - free posters, free CDs.. Everyone likes to get something for nothing.

Skim or read - you can read a magazine in different ways. You can spend hours reading each article or whizz through it.

Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere - you can take a magazine with you and read it all the time, rather than looking at a website or watching TV.

My audience will be able to gain ritual pleasure as it will be a monthly publish. I want my magazine cover to be glossy bright and eye catching. I want my magazine to inform and entertain my audience, I want my audience to feel confident themselves buying it.
