My design plan
Niche vs Mass audience
Since my magazine will be electronica/dance music genre obviously its going to be aimed at teenagers since they are the ones who will go on holiday to clubs etc. I want to use a popular distributor such as Bauer. MixMag was interestingly above NME in the shops which is interesting as it is among popular magazines. I want my magazine to appeal to a mass audience especially as its nearly summer time therefore i would promote my magazine heavily. My double page spread will be of a new upcoming artist.
Use of colour
Interestingly when i saw MixMag in ASDA it was very dark and hard to spot. It uses a colour scheme of greys and metallic colours. I had always thought that as a dance magazine there would be bright colours of yellows etc which actually featured in MixMag a while ago. I think my magazine is mainly pushing towards females and there will be elements of fashion and information of package holidays near the concerts. In 'Electronica' Magazine there is a bubblegum pink as the background which is interesting and engaging especially towards females.
Consitency and Conventions
As analysing David Carsons magazines consistency was not an element. I do want my music magazine to be consistent because i want my audience to recgonise and feel confident on what there buying, then they will buy it over again. I want the colours to have a similar colour to each issue. I want my house styles to remain the same so it will be easier to read. e.g. on the article/interview. I do like consistency. It just makes me feel everythings a lot neater. I am going to stick to magazine conventions as i wouldnt want my magazine to go out of business, and i am with a big media institution which i would want to convince my magazine would be successful.
Graphics
I do have an advantage of doing the electronic/dance genre since techonology is extremely important in producing the images for the magazine. I think the electronic/dance genre is all about heading into the future, i dont want to be boring.
