I really want to get a good understanding of peoples designs for a school magazine. I have found a school magazine which demonstrates a clear target audience and even socio economic class. The magazines 'Masthead' is called 'Prep school'. Prep school is short for 'Preparatory school' which clearly indicates that the magazine will be aimed at the parents or students attending the school. I imagine that anyone who goes to Prep school is middle-upper class demonstrating the socio economic class is ABC1.
Socio economic class
Depending on a lot of factors e.g. health, socio economic class can represent a target audience.
ABC1 - Upper/Middle Class
The font is in sans serif and in the colour white promoting it is clean, crisp and fresh. The font really does make a big impression as it is simple and organised. The font is contrasted onto a blue background which illustrates it uses very 'safe colours', For example the colours are primary and work well in comparison making the 'Prep school' stand out even further.
The main image fills almost three quaters of the page converying the editor/designer has wanted this to be the main focus. The magzine does not depend on coverlines making it very basic. The main image jumps out as representing a prep school as the children all have IPads and their facial expression looks confident. In addition the childrens personal image is smart and looks stereotypically middleclass e.g. Hairstyle etc. The image shows them in their school magazine and from a young age they are already wearing blazers.
The magazines screams to a niche audience. It is unsual since the left third is where the only 'coverline' lays. 'A focus on IT a flipped classroom model using tablets to transform learning'. This is such a huge comparison to the last textual analysis since the target audience has completley changed. The last magazine i had analysed had a very different layout, it focussed on coverlines and looked like a stereotypical magazine, most of the coverlines had the context of 'reassurance' at school, this magazine is completely dedicated to education purley.
The selling line in sans serif white 'Reflecting the best in the prep and junior school world' immediatley closes the gap on target audience, for example this magazine could not just go out to the average school child, infact it isolates itself to the middle/upper class. I could see this magazine following a house style and having the recognisable conventions each time as it is very basic.
