This was my original draft for my prelim task. The masthead was just named 'Southfield', which of course has now changed to SSFG Express. I was going to use my main image as a classroom but i decided i wanted to be different. There were a series of cover lines around the image but when i was using Microsoft word as my program, i used a template with the cover lines down the right hand page. I stuck to basic conventions of magazine design but i decided i wanted to be a bit quirkier. I decided that just using a classroom as the main image was going to be unexciting and boring especially if my target audience was teenagers. I asked round a few of my friends what they thought, and coming to conclusion their ideas were using a person as the main image since that's what they have always saw on magazines. After doing my research i decided to change this. I will stick to standard conventions but try add my own personality and creativity to the magazine.
This is now my final preliminary task
I decided to use the picture in the end as i thought it looked good on a school magazine cover. I really liked the idea of using an 'advertisement' in the corener as i thought it would appeal to the younger audience of giving away house points. I used red background behind the masthead to represent the school colours. I was a bit different in my creativity as i put the coverlines at the bottom of the magazine instead of around the sides. I put the issue number at the top with the pricing, just like on a standard conventional magazine. My slogan was 'giving you southfields gossip everymonth because i wanted to make the magazine more interesting especially for my younger audience.
I was going to use Zahra for my model, however the photo didnt come out the way i wanted it too. I think it just looked a bit unprofessional, and obviously i didnt want this. I wanted the coverlines to relate to the image so i decided to talk about exam results, something everyone has to go through. I wanted to give out a freebie which is something everyone likes as mentioned on audience pleasures, i thought a free revision guide(prior from Wh smith) would excite everyone, since its free! and WH smith is a top stationary store which appeals to a younger audience.
